The Unexpected

This post comes with a warning: Be careful what you say or do around an author. So, yesterday at church, while waiting for my son, two acquaintances said something in front of me that was very innocuous. They were referring to some computers being set up and taken down in the family history center, and to tie up loose ends, the woman said to the man, “Does John know?” John is the woman’s husband.

I assure you, it really was innocent. However … my writer’s brain grabbed hold of that phrase. Almost immediately I came up with a myriad of possibilities for what that phrase could mean, and I’ll tell you that none of them related to setting up computers. This morning, instead of getting right on writing this blog, I started to write a new book. I wrote the first chapter and scribbled down some basics for the plot. I will leave it until my current work-in-progress in finished, but in the meantime, don’t say I didn’t warn you!
